This issue arrives as Door County begins rounding the corner into Autumn. The evidence is apparent in the cooler nights, the leaves with a yellower or redder shade, and the dryer, crisper air that blows through our peninsula. While the explosion of color that will arrive within just a few short weeks continues to earn its reputation, the warmer temperatures and late-summer vibe of September/October in Door County can’t be missed. That’s right, and you’ve driven right past it on your way up. Just north of Sturgeon Bay lies the the trails at Crossroads at Big Creek’s Ida Bay Preserve. With a new map for hikers, the naturalists at Crossroads hope to educate about the human history of Door County, and bring an understanding of the people that cared for this land before our time.
