The beautiful skies, framed by the brilliant color of changing leaves, provide a graceful transition from Door County’s gorgeous summer weather to our deep freeze of winter. They serve as a reminder of the rebirth and renewal that this ecosystem experiences annually.
Earlier this month, much of Wisconsin experienced the rare opportunity to view the aurora borealis with the naked eye, and no where was it more breathtaking than here in Door County. Our county, home to a Dark Sky Place, offers the low light pollution and big open sky that allow the northern lights to shine in all their glory.

Despite the impact of dry conditions for much of the summer and a somewhat-pessimistic fall colors forecast, Door County’s fall colors are indeed breathtaking right now. If you happen to be in the county, there is more to see this time of year than just the falling leaves.
