In Door County, March brings that magical in-between time—when winter’s grip begins to loosen and the first hints of spring emerge. The days grow longer, the sunlight feels warmer, and there’s a palpable sense of anticipation in the air. While we may still see occasional snowfall (and locals know better than to put away our winter gear too soon!), this is when the peninsula begins its gradual awakening.

With fewer visitors, you’ll experience the authentic charm of our communities and the personalized service that makes Door County so special. Book your getaway with us and discover why spring in Door County offers a uniquely tranquil experience for those in the know.

Maple Syrup Season is Underway

March marks the beginning of one of Door County’s sweetest traditions—maple syrup season! As temperatures rise above freezing during the day but still dip below freezing at night, the sap begins to flow in maple trees across the peninsula. Local producers are already well into the annual process of collecting and producing the high quality syrup that Door County is known for.

Hit the Trails!

The trails are beginning to thaw, revealing glimpses of the coming spring. Early wildflowers like hepatica and bloodroot may start peeking through in protected areas, and wildlife activity increases as animals emerge from winter dormancy.

Peninsula State Park and Newport State Park offer excellent early spring hiking opportunities. The still-bare trees provide unique views of the shoreline that will be hidden once the forest leafs out. Just be sure to wear waterproof boots, as trails can be muddy during the spring thaw!
